A/B Testing Use Case: Optimizing Email Subject Lines for Higher Open Rates

 

Scenario:

A company wants to increase the open rates of its promotional emails in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC). To achieve this, they decide to run an A/B test on the email subject line.

Test Setup:

  • Objective: Determine which subject line results in a higher open rate.

  • Test Group: 20% of the email list (10% receive Version A, 10% receive Version B).

  • Winning Criteria: The version with the higher open rate after 4 hours will be sent to the remaining 80% of the audience.

Variations:

  • Version A: "Exclusive 50% Off – Limited Time Offer!"

  • Version B: "Hurry! Your Special 50% Discount Expires Soon!"

Execution in SFMC:

  1. Navigate to Email Studio → A/B Testing.

  2. Select "Subject Line" as the test variable.

  3. Define the audience split (e.g., 10% for each version, 80% for the winner).

  4. Set the winning metric (open rate).

  5. Schedule the email send and analyze the results.
